Abstract
Background: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a peripheral neuropathy condition caused by compression of the median nerve at the wrist. The symptoms or problems that may occur include pain, tingling, numbness, decreased muscle strength, and decreased hand function. In Jakarta, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a peripheral neuropathy condition that frequently occurs in garment workers with a prevalence of 20.3%. Factors that can influence the occurrence of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome include gender, age, BMI, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and pregnancy. Objective: To understand and determine the physiotherapy management process in the condition of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Methods: The method used in this study was a case study conducted at RSUD Tarakan on February 25, March 4, March 9, and March 11, involving a 53-year-old female patient with complaints of pain, numbness, tingling, decreased muscle strength, decreased range of motion, and limitations in hand function during daily activities. Physiotherapy examinations were carried out using the Visual Analog Scale, active and passive range of motion (ROM) examination using a goniometer, muscle strength examination (MMT), sensory examination, and functional examination using the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ). Results: The results obtained from this study after 4 treatment sessions with the administration of Ultrasound, Tendon Gliding Exercise, Wrist Stretching, and Upper Limb Tension Test 1 (ULTT 1), showed a decrease in tenderness and movement pain, an increase in active and passive range of motion, an increase in muscle strength of the wrist flexors, and improvement in hand function based on functional examination using the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ). Conclusion: After 4 treatment sessions, the results showed a decrease in pain, an increase in range of motion, an increase in muscle strength, and improvement in hand function with the administration of Ultrasound, Tendon Gliding Exercise, Wrist Stretching, and Upper Limb Tension Test 1 (ULTT 1).
