Abstract
Background: A contagious condition known as pulmonary tuberculosis is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. When an infected person coughs or sneezes, droplets are released into the air, spreading this disease, which primarily affects the lungs. Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis often experience abnormalities in the respiratory system characterized by increased sputum production, ineffective coughing, and weakened respiratory muscles due to the continuous progression of the disease. The purpose of this study is to provide nursing care to patients at the General Hospital of South Tangerang City suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis, whose main problem is ineffective airway clearance. Method: Descriptive case study with emphasis on providing nursing care that includes assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and nursing evaluation. In-depth interviews, physical examinations, observation, and documentation are some of the methods used to collect data. This study focuses on a 44-year-old patient with pulmonary tuberculosis whose main problem is ineffective airway clearance. Result: Studies show that ineffective airway clearance caused by hypersecretion of the respiratory tract is a major nursing problem. One of the nursing interventions used to address this condition is the effective cough technique. Conclusion: On the third day, nursing problems related to ineffective airway clearance can be addressed, as indicated by the achievement of goals and outcome criteria, such as improved airway clearance, increased cough effectiveness, decreased sputum production, improved breathing patterns, improved respiratory rate, and reduced abnormal breath sounds. Suggestion: It is hoped that patients with pulmonary tuberculosis are able to perform effective coughing exercises independently as an effort to optimize sputum expulsion.
