Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the leading infectious diseases associated with high morbidity and mortality worldwide. TB may lead to deterioration in nutritional status due to increased metabolic demands, inflammatory responses, and reduced dietary intake, which are commonly manifested by weight loss. Tuberculosis treatment consists of an intensive phase followed by a continuation phase, both of which are expected to improve patients' clinical condition and nutritional status. Objective: To analyze the association between tuberculosis treatment phases and changes in nutritional status based on body weight in pulmonary tuberculosis patients at dr. Chasbullah Abdulmadjid Regional General Hospital, Bekasi City, in 2025. Methods: An analytical observational study employed a retrospective cohort design involving 47 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis selected using the total sampling method at Dr. Chasbullah Abdulmadjid Regional General Hospital, Bekasi City, in 2025. Results: Of the 47 subjects, the majority were male (70.2%) and belonged to the adult age group (80.9%). The median body weight increased from 48.6 kg at baseline to 49.6 kg at the end of the intensive phase and 51.9 kg at the end of the continuation phase. Wilcoxon test analysis demonstrated statistically significant differences in body weight between baseline and the end of the intensive phase (p = 0.001), as well as between baseline and the end of the continuation phase (p = 0.001). Conclusion: There is a significant association between tuberculosis treatment phases and changes in nutritional status based on body weight in pulmonary tuberculosis patients at dr. Chasbullah Abdulmadjid Regional General Hospital, Bekasi City, in 2025.
