Abstract

This thesis aims to analyze how the strategic efforts made by the Chinese Government in encouraging electric vehicle exports to the European Union in the period 2020 to 2023. The phenomenon of increasing EV exports from China to Europe is relevant to be studied with a neo-mercantilism theory approach that emphasizes the active role of the state in strengthening national power through industrial and trade policies. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach, and data is collected through literature studies and analysis of official documents. The results of the study show that China's success in increasing electric vehicle exports to the European Union cannot be separated from state intervention through strategic industrial policies such as the Dual Credit Policy, subsidies, fiscal incentives, and mastery of the battery supply chain and production technology. The Chinese government also actively encourages the global expansion of domestic manufacturers through the establishment of overseas production facilities, as well as strategic partnerships with foreign companies. On the other hand, this success is also influenced by increasing demand in the European Union along with the implementation of the European Green Deal and Fit for 55 Package policies. These findings strengthen the relevance of neo-mercantilism theory in explaining the relationship between domestic policies and global economic expansion, especially in the green technology sector.
