Abstract
This study aims to analyze the condition of civic space in Indonesia during the legal process and after the court ruling in Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan's lawsuit against Haris Azhar and Fatia Maulidiyanti, using the concept of civic space. The method used in this study is a qualitative case study. Data collection techniques include interviews with human rights activists, civil society organizations, and academics, as well as literature review of books, journals, articles, court rulings, research reports, and other sources. The researchers employed data analysis techniques according to Miles & Huberman: data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and data validation or triangulation. The final results of this study indicate that throughout the legal process, civic space was under pressure and vulnerable. Furthermore, after the court ruling, Haris and Fatia's victory was deemed more symbolic and did not indicate substantive structural changes in the relationship between the state and civil society, as problematic legal instruments are still used by the state or authorities to silence freedom of expression and criminalize civil society.
