Abstract

Hand hygiene compliance is crucial in preventing Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs). Case-based education is considered an effective approach to improving nurses’ understanding and compliance with hand hygiene practices. This study aimed to determine the effect of case-based education on hand hygiene knowledge and compliance. The intervention was conducted among six nurses through material delivery, a WHO case-based video, and hand hygiene demonstrations. The results showed an increase in knowledge from 33.33% to 66.67%, although the change was not statistically significant (p = 0.923). In contrast, compliance demonstrated a significant improvement from 33.33% to 50% (p = 0.040). Case-based education proved effective in enhancing hand hygiene compliance and is recommended to be implemented routinely to strengthen infection prevention efforts.
