Abstract

Hypertension, often referred to as the “silent killer” due to its lack of early symptoms, is a serious global health threat that can lead to various fatal complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, and premature death. Family nursing plays an important role in controlling blood pressure through education and intervention at home. Non-pharmacological therapies can be used to control blood pressure, such as Swedish back massage. The purpose of this study was to analyze family nursing care for patients with hypertension through Swedish back massage intervention to control blood pressure. The research design was a case study that applied all stages of family nursing care, namely assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation in the families of Mr. D and Mr. T. The intervention in the form of Swedish back massage was carried out over a period of six weeks (a total of 12 sessions), with a schedule of twice a week, each session lasting 30 to 40 minutes. Blood pressure measurements were taken using a digital sphygmomanometer before and after the intervention. The main findings showed a substantial decrease in blood pressure in the patients, from 170/98 mmHg to 130/80 mmHg. In addition, there was an increase in the families' knowledge of non-pharmacological therapy and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle in the elderly. Therefore, Swedish back massage has been proven to be an effective intervention and is feasible to implement in blood pressure management in community-based family nursing practice.
