Abstract
Venipuncture is one of the most frequently performed procedures in emergency departments and is often associated with pain and anxiety in adult patients. These responses, when not properly managed, can affect patient comfort and satisfaction with nursing care. Acupressure is a non-pharmacological intervention that has been shown to effectively reduce pain, decrease anxiety, and enhance patient comfort. This therapy works by applying pressure to specific acupressure points such as LI4, LI11, and HT7, stimulating the nervous system to produce relaxation and analgesic effects. This case study involved two adult patients undergoing venipuncture in the form of intravenous cannulation in the emergency department. The study employed a case study design with acupressure administered prior to the procedure. The results demonstrated reductions in pain and anxiety levels, along with an increase in patient satisfaction following the intervention. These findings indicate that acupressure can be utilized as a complementary therapy to improve patient experience and comfort during venipuncture procedures in the emergency care setting.
