Abstract

Nurses emotional regulation strategies are related to heris ability to manage and control emotional responses when facing work demand in busy and high risk inpatient wards. Inability to regulate emotions can trigger work fatigue, which affects the quality of nursing services. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between emotional regulation startegies and work fatigue. This study used a cross-sectional approach and purposive sampling with a sample of 139 nurses in the inpatient ward of Tarakan Regional General Hospital Jakarta from a population of 213. The research instrument was a questionnaire. The results of the chi-square analysis showed that there was no significant realtionship between the characteristict of nurses age, gender, maritas status, education level, and length of service with work fatigue. Meanwhile, there was a significant relationship between emotional regulation startegies and work fatigue among nurses with a value < 0.013. Nurses with good emotional regulation strategies tended to experince lower work fatigue. It is hoped that nursing management can improve nurses emotional regulation skills to reduce work fatigue.
