Abstract
Pulmonary tuberculosis remains a major public health problem in Indonesia because it requires long-term treatment and a high level of patient adherence. Non-adherence to treatment can lead to therapy failure and increase the risk of drug resistance. The role of the Drug Intake Supervisor (PMO) and patient motivation are important factors in supporting the success of pulmonary tuberculosis treatment. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the PMO’s role based on PMO self-assessment and patient motivation with medication adherence among pulmonary tuberculosis patients at Tapos Community Health Center. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The research sample consisted of 44 pulmonary tuberculosis patients and 44 PMOs who met the inclusion criteria, selected using total sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires on the PMO’s role, patient motivation, and the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8). Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-square test. The results showed a significant relationship between the PMO’s role and medication adherence (p < 0.001), as well as between patient motivation and medication adherence (p < 0.001). These findings emphasize that healthcare providers can improve treatment adherence in pulmonary tuberculosis by strengthening PMO guidance and enhancing patient motivation through continuous education and support.
