Abstract
Chronic kidney disease is the body’s inability to eliminate metabolic waste, requiring patients to undergo renal replacement therapy, including hemodialysis. Several vascular access options are available for hemodialysis, with Arteriovenous Fistula (AVF) being the most commonly used. However, patients with AVF often experience pain during needle insertion. Therefore, effective pain-control interventions are needed, such as applying acupressure to the LI-4 point before insertion. Acupressure at the LI-4 point is a non-pharmacological technique that uses finger pressure on specific acupressure points, particularly the Large Intestine 4 point. This intervention was administered to both managed and resume patients over several sessions, and pain levels were measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). The results showed similar outcomes in both cases: the managed patient’s pain decreased from a score of 8 to 4, while the resume patient’s pain decreased from 8 to 5. These findings indicate that LI-4 acupressure effectively reduces AVF insertion pain. It is a simple, non-invasive intervention with minimal risk of complications, making it a valuable option for improving patient comfort during hemodialysis procedures.
