Abstract
The high prevalence of ineffective breastfeeding among postpartum mothers contributes to low breast milk production in Indonesia. Physiological and psychological factors such as pain, stress, and inadequate stimulation of the oxytocin hormone can inhibit the milk ejection reflex. One evidence-based approach to increasing breast milk production is the combination of oxytocin massage and Oketani massage. This study aimed to implement a combination of these two massage techniques to improve breast milk production among postpartum mothers with ineffective breastfeeding at RSUD Dr. Chasbullah Abdulmadjid Bekasi. A descriptive case study design was applied to two postpartum patients. The intervention was administered twice daily for three consecutive days, with each session lasting 20 minutes. Breast milk production was evaluated every 24 hours using breast milk storage bags. The results demonstrated an increase in breast milk volume in both patients. In the primary patient, milk production increased from 60 mL on the first day to 260 mL on the third day, while in the secondary patient, it increased from 50 mL to 250 mL. These findings indicate that nursing care incorporating a combination of oxytocin and Oketani massage can enhance breast milk secretion through stimulation of oxytocin and prolactin hormones and promote relaxation in postpartum mothers. However, the effectiveness of this intervention remains influenced by individual physiological conditions, highlighting its role as a supportive non pharmacological therapy to facilitate successful breastfeeding and improve maternal comfort after childbirth.
