Abstract
Stroke is a chronic disease commonly experienced by older adults and can cause long-term physical, cognitive, and emotional impairments. This condition results in elderly stroke patients requiring long-term care at home, where the family plays a crucial role as the primary caregiver. Family knowledge is an important factor because it influences attitudes and readiness in providing care. Inadequate knowledge may lead to negative attitudes and adversely affect the quality of care for elderly stroke patients. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the level of family knowledge and family attitudes in caring for elderly stroke patients in the Limo Sub-district, Depok City. This study employed a quantitative analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used was total sampling, involving 124 family caregivers of elderly stroke patients. Data were collected using the Stroke Knowledge Assessment Tool (SKAT) questionnaire and a family attitude questionnaire, and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that most respondents had low levels of knowledge and negative attitudes toward caring for elderly stroke patients. Bivariate analysis indicated a significant relationship between family knowledge and attitudes (p < 0.001). This study emphasizes the importance of family education through structured information, simple training, and continuous support to improve knowledge and foster positive attitudes in community-based care for elderly stroke patients.
