Abstract
This study aims to examine how viewers of the documentary Ice Cold interpret the representation of Dr. Djaja as a medical authority in the documentary “Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee and Jessica Wongso.” The researcher used a descriptive qualitative method with a constructivist paradigm and Stuart Hall's audience reception theory, which involves the concepts of encoding and decoding. The research subjects consisted of six informants (two law students, two medical students or interns, and two communication science students) who met the criteria and were selected using purposive sampling. The in-depth interview data with the informants will be processed through data coding: open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. Five informants interpreted Dr. Djaja as a figure representing medical authority. This is because Dr. Djaja acted as a forensic expert who provided medical explanations related to cyanide, the condition of Mirna's body, and the cause of Mirna's death. Meanwhile, one informant interpreted Dr. Djaja as a controversial figure who was able to sway public opinion due to his credibilityThese differences in interpretation are influenced by knowledge, background, culture, and life experiences.
