Abstract
Background: Housewives often experience musculoskeletal disorders such as neck discomfort and poor posture due to repetitive and high-intensity physical activity. Neck discomfort is more common in housewives due to the long time spent cleaning, sweeping, mopping, cooking, and caring for children. Objective: To determine the relationship between physical activity and neck pain in housewives at Griya Pamulang Asri Housing Complex. Methods: The researchers in this study used a cross-sectional quantitative design. A simple random sampling procedure was used to select a sample of 80 housewives. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was used to evaluate physical activity, while the Neck Pain Disability Index (NDI) was used to measure neck pain. Data were examined using the Chi-Square test for univariate and bivariate analysis. Results: Most participants (83.8%) reported engaging in vigorous physical activity and 82.5 percent reported moderate neck discomfort. Physical activity was shown to be significantly associated with neck discomfort (p = 0.000) according to the Chi-Square test, which also showed good correlation strength (CC = 0.675). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between physical activity and neck pain in housewives. The application of ergonomics and physical activity management is needed to prevent an increase in neck pain complaints.
