Abstract
Breast engorgement and breast pain are common problems encountered among postpartum mothers, especially during early breastfeeding which can cause discomfort and hinder the breastfeeding process. Aloe vera gel compress therapy in one non pharmacological technique that can be applied to treat breast engorgement and breast pain. This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of aloe vera gel compresses in reducing the scale of breast engorgement and breast pain in spontaneous postpartum mothers. The research method used a quasi experimental design with a one group pre post test involving 32 respondents. The reduction in the breast engorgement scale was shown by the average pretest and posttest scores from 4,50 to 1,91 (p value). A decrease in the pain scale was also seen from the average pretest and posttest results from 4,88 to 1,22 (p value). The Wilcoxon test results showed a p value of 0,001 (p<0,005) indicating that there was a significant effect of aloe vera gel compress therapy on breast engorgement and breast pain. Hopefully, postpartum mothers can apply aloe vera gel compress therapy as a measure to reduce breast engorgement and breast pain.
