Abstract
Corrosion is a critical issue in various industrial sectors as it leads to significant economic losses and increases the risk of component failure. Corrosion is defined as the degradation of metallic materials resulting from chemical or electrochemical reactions between the metal and its surrounding environment. This study aims to analyze and compare the corrosion resistance of SS316L and SS304 under dry corrosion conditions. High temperature oxidation tests were conducted at temperatures of 800 °C, 900 °C, and 1000 °C with varying aging times. The results indicate that the oxidation rate increases with increasing temperature and aging time. At 1000 °C, the oxide layer thickness of SS316L reached approximately 74 µm after 150 minutes. In contrast, SS304 exhibited a thicker oxide layer of about 79 µm at the same aging time, with a continuous increasing trend as the aging time increased. These findings demonstrate that SS316L exhibits superior oxidation resistance compared to SS304 at elevated temperatures.
