Abstract
Regional vulnerability to food insecurity is one of the challenges in realizing development in Indonesia. Educational conditions play an important role in improving the community's adaptive capacity. This study aims to examine how educational characteristics can explain regional vulnerability to food insecurity through an analysis of four causal conditions, namely average length of schooling, households that have accessed the internet, the ratio of education subsidies per number of students, and the ratio of the number of schools per population/school-age students. The research method used is fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA). The object of this study was 34 provinces in Indonesia in 2021. The results of the study show that there are three pathways in which educational characteristics explain the level of vulnerability of a region to food insecurity in Indonesia. Pathway one, with a combination of suboptimal average length of schooling and suboptimal subsidy ratio per number of students, was found in 12 provinces. Pathway two shows optimal education subsidy ratio per student and optimal ratio of schools per school-age population in 12 provinces. Pathway three shows optimal average length of schooling, optimal internet access among households, and suboptimal ratio of schools per population/school-age students in 10 provinces.
