Abstract

Objective: The rapid development of technology and social media, especially Instagram and TikTok, has changed the way adolescents interact and communicate. However, high intensity of social media use is thought to affect anxiety levels in adolescents. Methods: this study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 123 adolescents selected using purposive sampling. The intensity of social media use was measured using the Social Network Time Usage Scale (SONTUS), while anxiety levels were measured using the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale (TMAS). Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Results: The intensity of Instagram and TikTok social media use was significantly associated with adolescent anxiety levels (p = 0.039 for Instagram and p = 0.006 for TikTok). Conclusion: The study shows that the intensity of Instagram and TikTok social media use has a significant relationship with adolescent anxiety levels.
