Abstract
Obesity is characterized by excessive adipose tissue accumulation that triggers a persisntent mild inflammatory state, reflected by higher concentrations of C-Reactive Protein (CRP). Elevated CRP also reflects an increased risk of obesity-related cardiovascular diseases. The primary management of obesity focuses on lifestyle modification to surpress chronic inflammation and reduce metabolic complications. Herbal plants with anti-inflammatory properties, such as Moringa oleifera fruit extract, can be utilized to reduce low-grade chronic inflammation in obesity because they possess abundant flavonoid compounds, notably kaempferol, quercetin, and phenolic acids. This study aimed to determine the effect of Moringa oleifera fruits extract on changes in CRP levels as anti-inflammatory agent in an obesity rat model. An experimental population of 30 Sprague-Dawley rats was organized into three control arms and two treatment arms. Moringa oleifera fruits extract was administered at ad dose of 500 mg/KgBW with frequencies of once a daily and twice daily. Dataset was processed using the One Way ANOVA method. One Way ANOVA present a clear difference (p<0.05), indicating that Moringa oleifera fruits extract administration reduced CRP levels in obese rats at both dosing frequencies. Post-Hoc Befferoni analysis demonstrated that twice-daily administration produced CRP levels nearly equivalent to positive control and normal control groups. Conclusion of this experiment is Moringa oleifera fruits extract significantly lowers CRP levels in an obesity rat model, with twice-daily 500 mg/KgBW dose providing the most effective anti-inflammatory response.
