Abstract
This study aims to reveal the meaning of women’s financial loyalty in romantic relationships with economically passive partners. This study employs the transcendental phenomenological approach developed by Edmund Husserl. In-depth interviews and observations were conducted with several informants who have experienced premarital romantic relationships characterized by financial dominance on the part of the woman. The research findings indicate that women's financial contributions are recognized as investments during the romantic phase, burdens during the conflict phase, and grant during the acceptance phase. These meanings are shaped by emotional dynamics, power imbalances in relationships, and the social construction of gender roles within non-formal partnerships. The findings highlight the urgency for accounting frameworks and financial literacy programs that integrate emotional and gender-sensitive approaches, especially in informal personal relationships. This study contributes a novel perspective by recognizing women’s financial contributions as meaningful social acts, expanding accounting’s scope to include emotional labor and gendered financial roles.
