Abstract
Coronary heart disease (CHD) remains a leading cause of global morbidity and mortality, with dyslipidemia serving as a major determinant of atherosclerotic progression. Dyslipidemia is characterized by elevated levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL cholesterol, along with reduced HDL cholesterol. Both statin and non-statin therapies are utilized in the management of dyslipidemia; however, comparative evidence regarding their effectiveness in CHD populations remains inconsistent. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of statin and non-statin therapy on lipid profile improvement among CHD patients. An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted using medical record data of CHD patients with dyslipidemia at RSUP Persahabatan in 2024. A total of 124 patients met the inclusion criteria. Most patients were elderly (60.5%), female (52%), and classified as overweight based on body mass index (46%). Statins were prescribed to 73% of patients, whereas non-statins were used by 27%. The Mann–Whitney test demonstrated significant differences in LDL levels (p = 0.002), triglycerides (p = 0.001), and total cholesterol (p = 0.036), while no significant difference was observed in HDL levels (p = 0.675). The study concludes that statins are more effective in reducing LDL levels and increasing HDL levels, whereas non-statin therapy shows greater effectiveness in lowering triglycerides and total cholesterol.
