Abstract

This study examines the influence of Emotional Intelligence and Job Demand on Burnout with Psychological Well-being as a moderating variable among employees of PT XYZ, an oil and gas company operating in Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 130 respondents through purposive sampling and analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The findings indicate that both Emotional Intelligence and Job Demand significantly increase Burnout, suggesting that higher emotional sensitivity and self-awareness may, in certain work contexts, heighten emotional strain and contribute to greater fatigue, while elevated job pressures similarly intensify Burnout levels. Psychological Well-being was found to moderate the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Burnout by weakening the negative impact of heightened emotional demands, although it did not significantly moderate the effect of Job Demand on Burnout. These results highlight the complex role of emotional competencies in high-demand environments and underscore the need for organizational strategies that strengthen employees Psychological Well-being to mitigate Burnout effectively.
