Abstract

Diabetes mellitus triggers oxidative stress, leading to impaired sperm morphology. Pineapple core extract (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.), rich in flavonoids, saponins, and tannins, possesses antioxidant properties that may support cellular regeneration. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of pineapple core extract on sperm morphology in alloxan-induced diabetic male Wistar rats. An experimental post-test only control group design was applied across five groups, including negative control, positive control, and three treatment groups (50%, 75%, and 100% concentrations). Statistical analysis utilized Shapiro-Wilk and Kruskal-Wallis tests. The results demonstrated a descriptive increase in normal sperm morphology across all treatment groups compared to the positive control, although the improvement was not statistically significant (p > 0,05). In conclusion, pineapple core extract, especially at 100% concentration, shows descriptive potential in supporting the restoration of sperm morphology under diabetic conditions.
