Abstract
This study examines the role of Bianca Kartika as an influencer in promoting a Muslim-friendly lifestyle in South Korea through virtual travel content titled #KeKoreaAja, published on digital platforms, particularly YouTube. The background of this research is the transformation of South Korea’s public diplomacy, which utilizes digital technology and non-state actors to build its image as a tourism destination that is welcoming to Muslim travelers, especially from Indonesia, the country with the largest Muslim population in the world. The COVID-19 pandemic led to a significant decline in tourist arrivals to South Korea, prompting the government and the Korean Tourism Organization (KTO) to intensify digital diplomacy strategies to revive the tourism sector, one of which involves collaborating with influencers. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through literature studies and observations of social media content. The findings reveal that Bianca Kartika plays a crucial role as a bridge of public diplomacy by presenting authentic, personal, and educational narratives about the life of a Muslim in South Korea. The virtual travel content produced in collaboration with KTO not only introduces South Korean tourist destinations but also successfully builds trust among audiences—particularly Indonesian Muslims—that South Korea is an inclusive country and ready to welcome Muslim tourists. This study concludes that the collaboration between the South Korean government and influencers like Bianca Kartika is an effective public diplomacy strategy in the digital era, capable of strengthening South Korea’s nation branding as a modern, open, and culturally and religiously inclusive country.
