Abstract

This research, titled The Role of Toyota Motor Corporation Japan in Enhancing Indonesia’s Automotive Sector (2015–2020), investigates how Toyota’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), technology transfer, and capacity building programs contribute to strengthening Indonesia’s automotive industry. Using the theoretical framework of Liberalism, the study emphasizes that multinational corporations act as key players in fostering economic interdependence and promoting sustainable development in host countries. The research applies a descriptive qualitative method with secondary data analysis from industry reports, government regulations, and academic publications. Findings show that Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) not only expanded domestic production capacity but also positioned Indonesia as an export hub to over 90 countries, improved local content (TKDN), and supported IJEPA and PIDI 4.0 initiatives. Thus, Toyota plays a strategic role in the modernization of Indonesia’s automotive sector and strengthens bilateral relations between Indonesia and Japan.
