Abstract

The digitalization of cultural industries has significantly restructured the global music ecosystem, influencing both the production and international dissemination of popular culture. Japanese pop music (J-Pop), once hindered by conservative distribution systems and minimal governmental support, has recently experienced a resurgence driven by digital-native artists. This study explores how J-Pop evolves into a form of Japan’s cultural soft power amid the dynamics of globalization and digital transformation, using Yoasobi as a case study. Employing a qualitative descriptive methodology through literature review and indirect observation, the research reveals that Yoasobi’s unique integration of narrative fiction, aesthetic innovation, and digital distribution enables a renewed global interest in J-Pop. Their success across platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, and streaming services demonstrates the genre’s adaptive capacity to resonate with international audiences. The findings suggest that digitalization not only facilitates transnational cultural flow but also strengthens national identity articulation and soft power deployment through hybridized cultural content.
