Abstract

Elementary school children categorized as overweight are at risk of developing obesity during adolescence or adulthood and may be prone to various chronic diseases. Good diet quality and lunchbox meals that align with balanced nutrition are important factors in preventing childhood obesity. This study aims to analyze the relationship between snacking habits, lunchbox consumption, and diet quality with the incidence of overweight among elementary school children. The research design used is cross-sectional, involving 100 students aged 10–12 years from SD Negeri Menteng Dalam 07. The sampling method used was Stratified Random Sampling, and data analysis was carried out using the Pearson correlation test. Univariate analysis showed that 56% of respondents were overweight. The majority of overweight respondents were male (36%). Most respondents had infrequent snacking habits (51%). The types of lunchbox meals brought by respondents were dominated by clean food (40%) and not bringing any lunch at all (31%). The adequacy of lunchbox consumption was mostly insufficient (<80% of the recommended dietary allowance) (40%), and the average diet quality score among respondents was 54.38%. Bivariate analysis showed that snacking habits, lunchbox consumption (both type and adequacy), and diet quality were significantly associated with the incidence of overweight (p = 0.002; p = 0.046; p = 0.000; p = 0.009). It is recommended that school children's lunchboxes not only focus on quantity but also consider the nutrient density and overall quality of the food consumed. Keywords : diet quality; lunch box consumption; snacking habits; overnutrition
