Abstract
International trade plays a crucial role in meeting global food needs, including rice, which is a strategic commodity for many countries. Thailand, as one of the world's largest rice exporters, serves as a key trade partner for various importing countries. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of rice-importing countries from Thailand using the fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) approach. The research focuses on 30 countries with the highest import volumes based on 2024 data. It evaluates the influence of four causal conditions Exchange Rate (NT), Inflation (INF), Domestic Rice Consumption (KBD), and Domestic Rice Production (PBD) on the outcome variable, Import Volume (VI). The results show that none of the conditions qualify as a necessary condition; however, all exhibit high coverage values, indicating they can be considered sufficient conditions. The single solution configuration generated reveals that only three conditions (NT, KBD, and PBD) are at an optimal level, while INF is at a suboptimal level. This suggests that despite inflation not being supportive, the combination of a stable exchange rate, high consumption, and strong domestic rice production capacity can still account for the high volume of imports.
