Abstract

This study aims to analyze the internal fragmentation within the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) regarding its support for the Ridwan Kamil–Suswono ticket in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election, particularly following Anies Baswedan’s endorsement of the Pramono–Rano pair. The research focuses on the political attitudes of PKS’s youth wing, Gema Keadilan, as a case study. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, utilizing in-depth interviews with party cadres, political observers, and other relevant informants. The theoretical framework is based on Steven Chaffee’s theory of political attitude, which comprises three key components: cognitive (knowledge), affective (emotions), and conative (actions). The findings reveal that in the cognitive dimension, there is a significant gap in understanding between party elites and younger cadres due to limited involvement in strategic decision-making. In the affective domain, emotional loyalty among younger cadres appears divided, largely influenced by symbolic affinity with external figures such as Anies Baswedan. Meanwhile, in the conative aspect, cadres continue to show formal loyalty and participate in party activities, yet there are signs of symbolic loyalty lacking in deep ideological commitment. The study concludes that PKS's internal unsolidarity is not overt but manifests subtly through symbolic and latent forms. If left unaddressed, this could escalate into more visible internal conflict. To address this, the study recommends enhancing two-way communication, meaningful involvement of young cadres in strategic processes, and a transformative approach to cadre development to strengthen substantive loyalty within the party.
