Abstract
Concurrent Stunting and Overweight/Obesity (CSO) is categorized as a form of Double Burden of Malnutrition (DBM) at the individual level, which affects the growth and health of adolescent girls and their future offspring. This study aims to analyze the determinants of CSO among Generation Z adolescent girls (aged 11-18 years) in East Java Province, Indonesia. A quantitative method was used, with analysis conducted using secondary data obtained from Survei Kesehatan Indonesia (SKI) 2023. The sample in this study consisted of Generation Z adolescent girls, born between 1997 until 2012. The data were analyzed using multivariate analysis to identify the determinants of CSO through logistic regression. Among 3,384 samples, 2.7% experienced CSO, with 2.2% having stunting-overweight and 0.5% having stunting-obesity. The multivariate analysis results showed that the frequency of meat, poultry, and processed products consumption (p-value = 0.004; OR 2.424; 95% CI 1.334–4.405), physical activity (p-value = 0.009; OR 2.221; 95% CI 1.221–4.040), and the frequency of milk and dairy (p-value = 0.021; OR 3.319; 95% CI 1.195–9.219) were significant factors associated with CSO among adolescent girls. Meanwhile, the consumption of eggs and their derivatives serves as a protective variable concerning CSO incidence in adolescent girls. It can be concluded that the most prevalent form of CSO is stunting-overweight, with the meat, poultry, and processed products consumption being the most influential determinant of CSO among Generation Z adolescent girls in East Java Province, Indonesia.
