Abstract

This research aims to examine the role of the podcast “Bocor Alus Politik”, produced by Tempo, in exercising power oversight during the Joko Widodo–Ma’ruf Amin administration (2019–2024). To explore this role, the study draws on John Keane’s theory of Monitory Democracy, which emphasizes the importance of non-formal institutions in scrutinizing power. This study adopts a qualitative case study approach, using primary data from interviews with relevant sources and secondary data from literature studies and podcast episodes. The findings reveal that since its initial broadcast, Bocor Alus Politik has succeeded in capturing public and governmental attention. It played a part in prompting sanctions against Constitutional Court Justice Anwar Usman and elicited defensive responses from several ministers, illustrating the influence of alternative political communication. The research concludes that Bocor Alus Politik has played a significant role in strengthening public oversight of power, especially amid the decline of formal democratic institutions.
