Abstract

Hypertension ranked as the second most prevalent disease in Cilegon City in 2023, with a total of 15,501 cases. Data indicates that health literacy and knowledge about hypertension among patients in the region remain low, which is suspected to contribute to poor medication adherence. The aim of this study is to identify the relationship between the level of knowledge and medication adherence among hypertensive patients at Cilegon Regional General Hospital (RSUD Cilegon) in the use of antihypertensive. This study was a quantitative study using a cross-sectional approach. The analysis was conducted using the Pearson Correlation test. The independent variable in this study is the patients’ knowledge about hypertension, while the dependent variable is adherence to taking antihypertensive medication. The results show a significance value (1-tailed) of <0.001 (p<0.005) and a correlation coefficient of 0.730. The level of patients' knowledge about hypertension strongly influences their medication adherence, with a very strong correlation.
