Abstract

“The Dream Scratch” is a documentary that highlights the struggle of a volunteer teacher in the Tempat Pembuangan Sampah Akhir Terpadu (TPST), Bantargebang, Bekasi. This documentary highlights the social economic background of Bantargebang residents and the important role of alternative education such as Sanggar Anak Kita (SAKA) as a solution to inequality in access to education. With a portrait documentary approach and interactive expositional storytelling style, this film presents a touching and inspiring narrative about the values of social care, access to education, and hope for a better future for children in marginalized areas. The visual presentation is done with a free cinema approach, with the aim of educating and arousing public empathy towards the reality of education in marginalized areas. This documentary also shows the creative process of the documentarian who acts as a producer and scriptwriter, starting from pre-production, namely research, concept development, determining sources, and designing budgets. During production, the documentarian ensures the smooth running of various operational aspects and monitors the shooting process. Meanwhile, in the post-production stage, the documentarian focuses on strategizing the screening of the documentary film as well as supervising the editing process, to ensure that the final film is in line with the vision and goals of the production team.
