Abstract
Pain is one of the main symptoms and complaints experienced by patients with breast cancer. The provision of opioid analgesic therapy mentioned in the WHO Analgesic Ladder guidelines can be a reference for medical management for cancer pain. This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of opioid analgesics and the suitability of the therapy profile with the WHO Analgesic Ladder in breast cancer patients at Dharmais Cancer Hospital Jakarta in 2023. This study employed an observational research design with retrospective data collection from the medical records of patients who experienced pain and received opioid analgesic therapy in the Inpatient Installation of Dharmais Cancer Hospital Jakarta in 2023. The total sample in this study was 58 patients with the total sampling method data collection technique. Data analysis was performed with a paired two-sample comparative test, namely the Wilcoxon Test, to assess the comparison before and after the administration of opioid analgesics. The results showed a significant difference in pain scale reduction before and after opioid analgesic therapy (p < 0.001), although only 15.51% were in accordance with WHO Analgesic Ladder guidelines. The administration of opioid analgesics proved to be effective in managing cancer pain with results showing a significant difference in pain scale reduction before and after the administration of opioid analgesic therapy.
