Abstract

This research examines the role of the community organization Bang Japar in increasing the electability of Fahira Idris during the 2024 Regional Representative Council (DPD) election. The background of this study is based on Fahira Idris’s consistent success in securing the highest votes in several DPD elections, which is strongly suspected to be supported by grassroots political work from Bang Japar. This research aims to analyze the forms and strategies of Bang Japar’s involvement in supporting Fahira Idris. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The theoretical framework is based on James C. Scott’s patron-client theory, with four key indicators: power asymmetry, personal and informal ties, client dependence, and reciprocal exchange. The findings show that Bang Japar is not merely a passive political supporter but actively engages in social work, community security, religious events, MSME promotion, and public advocacy, all of which are integrated into Fahira Idris’s electoral campaign. The four indicators in the patron-client theory are proven to be present in this relationship through electoral and non-electoral participation approaches, making the relationship between Fahira Idris and Bang Japar symbiotic, adaptive, and sustainable.. The study concludes that strong social networks and emotional closeness between patron and client are key drivers in the increase of votes during the 2024 DPD election.
