Abstract

Moringa oleifera leaves have been proven to possess potential as an anti-aging agent due to their flavonoid content. Moringa oleifera leaf extract is formulated into an emulgel serum, which combines two bases of oil and water. This study aims to determine the effect of varying concentrations of carbomer 940 on the physical and chemical stability of the formulation. The method used is an experimental laboratory study by preparing four emulgel serum formulas containing moringa leaf extract. Physical stability tests include organoleptic properties, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, spreadability, adhesiveness, emulsion type, phase separation, and chemical stability through total flavonoid content. Stability tests were conducted at 40°C with 75% relative humidity (RH) for 3 months. Results showed that Formula 2, with 1.5% carbomer 940, had the most optimal physical and chemical stability, it was yellow color, thick texture, characteristic odor, homogeneity, viscosity of 40,059 cPs, pH 5.08, spreadability of 5.8 cm, adhesiveness of 8.41 seconds, O/W emulsion type, no phase separation, and total flavonoid content of 0,0070017 mgQE/g. In conclusion, variations in carbomer 940 concentration as a gelling agent do not affect the physical or chemical stability of the formulation, specifically the total flavonoid content with the statistic p value >0,05.
