Abstract
Background:Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is a condition characterized by impaired blood flow to the heart, leading to chest pain and shortness of breath. Non-pharmacological interventions such as Benson relaxation and progressive muscle relaxation techniques can help reduce pain intensity and improve patient comfort. Objective:To identify the effectiveness of Benson relaxation and progressive muscle relaxation techniques in nursing care for patients with CAD experiencing acute pain. Methods:This case study employed a descriptive approach using a single case study design involving an adult male patient treated at RSPPN Panglima Besar Soedirman for three days. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, physical examination, and documentation review. The relaxation interventions were implemented to relieve chest pain and were evaluated based on the patient’s subjective responses and vital signs. Results:Prior to the intervention, the patient reported severe chest pain with a pain scale of 8. After three consecutive days of combined Benson relaxation and progressive muscle relaxation techniques, the pain scale decreased to 0, accompanied by improvements in sleep quality, comfort, and breathing. Conclusion:Benson relaxation and progressive muscle relaxation techniques are effective in reducing acute pain in patients with Coronary Artery Disease.
