Abstract
This study explores the pheonomenon of naturalization in Indonesian football within the context of political nationalism, focusing on how students perceive this issues. The main objective is to understand how students of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN) “Veteran” Jakarta interpret the Indonesian Football Association’s (PSSI) policy of player naturalization during the period from 2019 to 2024, and its implications for national identity and nationalism in football. This research adopts a qualitative approach using a descriptive study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and literature reviews related to nationalism discourse and sport policy in Indonesia. The findings reveal varying studend perspectives: some view naturalization as an effective strategy to enhance the national team’s performance, while others see it as a threat to national team coach and social media plays a significant part in shaping student public opinion on the issue. In conclusion, naturalization is not merely a technical sports policy but also an ideological debate deeply interwined with contemporary concepts of nationalism in Indonesia
