Abstract

The plastic waste problem continues to escalate in Indonesia. In 2024, DKI Jakarta, as a metropolitan city, contributed a significant proportion to the national plastic waste generation. University students are considered a high-risk group in plastic consumption due to their mobility and practical lifestyle. This study aims to determine the factors related to the behavior of using plastic food containers (thinwall) among students in the DKI Jakarta area in 2025. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was used. Sampling was carried out using accidental sampling involving 530 student respondents, and data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The univariate analysis showed that 361 respondents (68.1%) demonstrated poor behavior in using thinwall containers. Bivariate analysis indicated significant relationships between behavior and knowledge (p=0.000), attitude (p=0.001), residential status (p=0.008), and social support (p=0.001). Meanwhile, parental income (p=0.289) and monthly allowance (p=0.441) were not significantly related. It can be concluded that students’ behavior in using thinwall containers is influenced by knowledge, attitude, residential conditions, and social support. It is recommended that campus environments encourage the formation of student environmental communities that actively promote reuse practices and plastic reduction initiatives
