Abstract
Elderly individuals are an age group vulnerable to experiencing sleep pattern changes, including insomnia, which can significantly impact their quality of life. This study aims to analyze the correlation between insomnia and quality of life in the elderly at Pusat Pelayanan Orang Tua Sejahtera (PPOS) GBKP Sibolangit, North Sumatra. The study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sampling technique used is total sampling, involving 34 elderly participants who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Insomnia was measured using the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) questionnaire, while quality of life was assessed with the World Health Organization Quality of Life-OLD (WHOQOL-OLD) instrument. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square and Fisher Exact Test. Results showed that 44.1% of subjects experienced mild insomnia, while 64.7% had a high quality of life. A significant correlation was found between insomnia and quality of life in the elderly (p-value = 0.044; p < α = 0.05). This indicates that prolonged sleep disturbances may lead to a decline in cognitive function, contributing to a lower quality of life. In conclusion, there is a significant correlation between insomnia and quality of life in the elderly at Pusat Pelayanan Orang Tua Sejahtera (PPOS) GBKP Sibolangit, emphasizing the need for early intervention to improve sleep quality and life satisfaction in the elderly.
