Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most common non-communicable diseases among the elderly and can lead to serious complications if not properly managed. Hypertension control can be achieved through non-pharmacological approaches, one of which is brisk walking exercise. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of brisk walking exercise in reducing blood pressure among elderly individuals with hypertension. The study was designed as a case study using a family nursing care approach, which includes assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The intervention was carried out three times a week for two weeks, with each session lasting 30 minutes. Blood pressure was measured using a digital sphygmomanometer before and after the intervention. The results showed a decrease in the patient's blood pressure from 172/95 mmHg to 135/82 mmHg. In addition, there was an improvement in the family’s understanding of non-pharmacological therapies and positive changes in the elderly’s healthy lifestyle behavior. Based on these findings, brisk walking exercise is proven to be an effective intervention for managing blood pressure in elderly individuals with hypertension and can be integrated into family nursing care practices in community settings.
