Abstract

This study focuses on analyzing Prabowo Subianto’s political strategy through the selection of Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the Vice Presidential candidate in the 2024 election. Utilizing Worcester and Baines' Political Positioning theory as an analytical framework, this research explores how political market, opposition research, policy development, and message dissemination are conducted in the formulation of a political strategy. This study employs a qualitative research method, with data collected through in-depth interviews with the Head of the Secretariat of the Gerindra Party Central Leadership Council, political analysts, and voters, as well as through document analysis. The findings indicate that Prabowo Subianto successfully won the 2024 presidential election by positioning himself as the successor to Joko Widodo through the selection of Gibran Rakabuming Raka as his Vice Presidential candidate. This positioning was achieved by understanding the prevailing societal realities, identifying political opponents' identities to highlight advantages they lacked, formulating relevant policies aligned with the chosen strategy and acceptable to target voters, and consistently disseminating political messages in a manner that reinforced the intended positioning, making them easily comprehensible to the electorate. This study underscores the importance of political positioning in shaping an effective political strategy to enhance support and build trust for a candidate in an electoral contest.
