Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the machinability index of glass fiber composite materials with epoksi resin and hardener matrixes in three ratio variations (3:1, 3:2, and 2:1). The material was fabricated using the hand lay-up method, and testing involved turning processes to measure surface roughness and cutting power. Surface roughness data were measured using a Surfcorder SE300, while cutting power was derived from electrical current measurements on a conventional lathe. The results showed that the 2:1 matrix ratio achieved the highest machinability index (86.53%) with the lowest average cutting power (0.3759 kW) and stable surface roughness (4.550 µm). This ratio provides an optimal balance between low cutting power and consistent surface quality, making it ideal for industrial applications. These findings significantly contribute to selecting more efficient and effective composite materials for machining processes.
