Abstract

Diplomacy that is starting to develop towards a more flexible direction provides a breath of fresh air for art activists. There is an imbalance in maximizing the potential of Indonesian cultural diplomacy, especially in the field of choirs when compared to the sports sector which is much more optimized in terms of funding and other supporting facilities. This study aims to see how choir competitions can be a forum for promoting Indonesian culture. This study also aims to find efforts and challenges for Indonesia in maximizing the potential of cultural diplomacy through the choir sector, which is not only a medium for cultural promotion but can also provide economic benefits, by using theories and concepts of cultural diplomacy, music diplomacy, and soft power that will help the author in answering the formulation of the problem in the study. The method used is descriptive qualitative with primary and secondary data sources. Data collection techniques are interviews and literature studies, and the data collected will be reduced, verified before being presented, which will be summarized in the final stage. The final results of this study show that Indonesian cultural diplomacy through “A Voyage of Songs” choir competitions has benefits not only for promoting culture but also as a stimulus for Indonesia's creative economy. This study also found opportunities and challenges in maximizing Indonesian cultural diplomacy in the choir sector, both of which focus on the roles of government and society.
