Abstract

Length of stay is the time a patient spends in the emergency room (ER) from when the patient arrives until the patient leaves the ER. The factors studied and associated in this study include triage level, patient origin, shift time, disposition status, type of health financing, number of supporting examinations, and number of consultations with specialist doctors. The design of this study is observational analytic with a cross-sectional study through a retrospective study approach. The population of this study was 8,944 people with a total sample of 383 respondents. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling. The results showed that the majority of patients in the ER of Tarakan Hospital had a LOS time of ≤240 minutes. Chi-square bivariate analysis and Fisher's Exact alternative analysis showed that triage level, disposition status, and number of supporting examinations had a significant relationship with length of stay (p-value <0.05), while the results of the analysis of the variables of patient origin, type of health financing, shift time, and number of consultations with specialist doctors showed no significant relationship with length of stay (p-value>0.05). The conclusion is that not all factors have a substantial relationship with length of stay.
