Abstract
Muscle strength is a crucial factor for post-stroke patients, as its decline is a common consequence. In recovery process, the family as caregiver motivates the patient's rehabilitation process, and patient compliance influences optimal recovery. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the role of family caregivers and rehabilitation compliance with muscle strength in post-stroke patients. The research design used was analytical observational with a cross-sectional method involving 138 stroke patient respondents undergoing rehabilitation and selected using the purposive sampling method. The instruments used were the modified Caregiver Contribution to Self-Care of Stroke Inventory and the modified Morisky Medication Adherence Scale by Kurniawan (2017), as well as Manual Muscle Testing. The results of the Spearman test showed a relationship between the role of family caregivers with upper and lower extremity muscle strength (p = 0.037; r = 0.178), and rehabilitation compliance with upper and lower extremity muscle strength (p = 0.000; r = 0.411) in post-stroke patients. The relationships were very weak and moderate, both showed a positive correlation, indicating that greater family caregiver role and rehabilitation compliance were associated with increased muscle strength. Future research should explore additional factors influencing these variables.
