Abstract
Diarrhea remains a major health problem, especially in toddlers. In Marunda, there was an increase in diarrhea cases from 2022 to 2023 among toddlers. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors related to the diarrhea incidence in toddlers in the Marunda 2 Sub-Health Center area. This study was conducted with a cross-sectional design. The population of this study were mothers with toddlers in the Marunda 2 Sub-Health Center work area. A total of 137 mothers with toddlers were involved as samples in this study using the accidental sampling technique. Data were analyzed using chi-square test. It was found that 55 out of 137 (40.2%) toddlers experienced diarrhea. The results showed a significant relationship between family income (p=0.001), maternal education (p=0.000), maternal knowledge (p=0.000), exclusive breastfeeding (p=0.007), hand washing behavior (p=0.000), uses of milk bottles (p=0.036), water quality (p=0.012), and toilet sanitation (p=0.000) on diarrhea incidence in toddlers. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between socioeconomic factors, maternal hygiene behavior, and environmental conditions on diarrhea incidence in toddlers. It is recommended that mothers with toddlers improve environmental cleanliness and healthy lifestyles.
