Abstract

Stigma is still a social problem when HIV transmission is increasing every year. Based on research in Indonesia, 59% of students have high stigma and 49.4% of people have stigma towards PLWH. Stigma towards PLWH is not only done by the community but also by nursing students. This study aims to determine the relationship between the levels of knowledge and perceptions about HIV and stigma towards PLWH among nursing students of UPN “Veteran” Jakarta. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional method and the analysis used was the chi-square test. The sampling technique used was proportionate stratified random sampling and there are 226 samples. The results of this study found that the majority of respondents were 18-20 years old (66.8%), female (94.2%), and were in the first semester of college (50.4%). The majority of respondents had low knowledge of HIV (71.2%), moderate perception of HIV (85%), and high stigma towards PLWH (54%). The research results indicate a significant relationship between the levels of knowledge and perceptions about HIV and stigma towards PLWH among nursing students of UPN “Veteran” Jakarta. Hopefully college students can improve their knowledge and experience about HIV to reduce stigma towards PLWH.
