Abstract

Cardiac arrest is one of the emergency conditions that is the main cause of death worldwide. As prospective health workers, nursing students have the capability to provide Basic Life Support (BLS). A more comprehensive approach is needed, such as the use of the Theory of Planned Behavior to explore the factors that trigger nursing students' intentions to perform first aid. This study uses the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to analyze the factors that influence the intention of UPNVJ nursing students to perform BLS. This study is quantitative with cross-sectional as the research design. The Stratified random sampling method was used to determine a sample of 144 people who were final year Bachelor of Nursing students and Nurses professions. The results showed that Attitude Toward Behavior was the dominant factor influencing intention (p = <0.000; OR = 8.543). Followed by Perceived Behavior Control (p = 0.000; OR = 7.910) and Subjective Norm (p = 0.002; OR = 2.909). It is hoped that these findings can be the basis for educational institutions to continue to improve the quality of teaching and clinical practice related to Basic Life Support.
